Welcome, and if you’re here because of a letter I’ve sent you, I owe you an apology. In my
rush to get your letter to print I didn’t proofread it for mistakes as thoroughly as I normally
would. You may not have caught the two mistakes. Our brain often inputs the word that
should be there regardless of what we see. I know many people that didn’t catch the
obvious error near the beginning, but there was a very small one toward the end too, did
you see it?
I don’t make many simple errors like this, but it’s my belief that people should own up to
them when they do and correct them as soon as possible. Everyone makes mistakes it’s
true, but what do we do after making them? In my rush to get the letter to print, I didn’t
abide by the golden rule of having someone else with a good eye read it for errors, and this
was my mistake. Something you can be sure of is I will never blame someone else for mine,
nor sidestep any responsibility.
It's interesting to me how petty and dishonorable people can get during politics. Someone,
or the friends of someone has been taking mine and Sara Gum’s signs down. This is more
than the signs being removed from the public road right of way. One of mine was taken off
the front yard of a family friend, and 5 of Sara’s along with one of mine were taken off the
property of one of a friend of hers. This is sign stealing from the yards and property of
private citizens. It is dirty, it is petty, and it is small-minded. I have also noticed that few if
any of the signs belonging to the election opponents of Sara Gum or myself seem to be
missing. I have travelled the county now about four times and have noticed the trend.
A way this sign stealing can happen on the public road right of way is if let’s say you work on
the local road commission and have allies there. These allies could claim they need to
mow a certain road right of way that contains the signs of a political opponent. They will
obviously need to take the signs down to mow the right of way, but then just never put the
signs back up. They disappear. I have seen county road right of ways newly mowed where
my signs have previously been, but now missing.
You will note, at least two of the candidates running for county public office seem to be
making a career out of running for office, any office, until they win an election. Sara Gum’s
opponent and one of mine. How devoted can these people be to their perspective jobs
should they win? It seems to me a matter of throwing mud at a wall to see what sticks. Do
you want someone in their job dedicated to just that job, or someone just hoping to win any
election possible? However, it is in God’s hands now.
I know this is well past the August primary but it’s important. September 21st from 9AM to
11AM there’s a race/walk starting downtown with a post-race celebration at Brady’s Bar
from 11AM to 3 PM for charity. Please visit https://www.morethanfourfoundation.org/
We’re on Team Conor. This is about the easiest and most fun you can have while
simultaneously supporting a local family in a most worthy cause. Bring your kiddos in
strollers, dogs, and whatever else you can muster. Take a 5 K stroll and end up at Brady’s for
some food and fun. Hope to see you.
